My ultimate favorite book!

Sorry about not posting last night, my brother brought his amazing family over for dinner, and honestly I was just too busy crawling around on the floor making faces at Miss G. ;) (And snapping pictures until my camera died.)  I would love to share these pictures with you, but unfortunately I am at the local community college stealing internet and my camera is in plain sight on my desk so that I wouldn't forget it. (I'm really good at grabbing my purse and forgetting everything around it.)
So I'm going to share something that makes my almost as happy; Diana Gabaldon's series to beat all series, which begin with Outlander, my ultimate favorite book. (Well, I honestly can't pick from the series, they are all my ultimate favorite books...)
So Here is the Series!

Here is a link to her Amazon Author page. You should really check out anything she has written, her short stories are all wonderful too!

A Book Recomendation (and a very long back story)

Back Story: Last night I attempted to convince the husbandman to buy me a book since I was stuck killing time at Borders (which is a bad move for our bank account, we have a thing for books as seen here.) Usually I get talked out of them fairly easily.  But this time I had a game plan.
I won this debate and with a single phrase. This was one of our intense, non verbal debates. He walks up to me, I'm wearing the biggest, sheepish grin known to man and clutching a book. He puts a hand out for the book with a raised eyebrow, and I sideline him with a very simple sentence that I'm pretty sure will have this book in my possession forever.
What was that awesome and mighty phrase you may ask.  I'll tell you, "turn to page 32." (yeah, doesn't seem all that convincing, but just wait.)  He looks at me like I'm crazy (he does that a lot) and starts to tell me how silly I must be to think that showing him a single page of this book will convince him to buy me a unplanned present this close to Valentines Day.  He gets out about five words and caught fast by a detailed recipe for the biggest, warmest, most delicious cinnamon rolls ever. I see it in his face as he stops mid-word.  I've got him! (and the book.)

I feel a little guilty at this point (yes even through my triumph) because this was a little sneaky of me, and more than a little low.  He can't resist cinnamon rolls and I know it.  However this doesn't end the happy dance and skipping up to the register.
You may be wondering what this book was, that I was so willing to use my secret weapon for.  It is my new favorite.  On of the blogs I found through my last book recommendation (Blogging for Bliss) and then promptly fell in love with was Farm Chicks (I am most definitely as farm chick.)  And they happen to have a cookbook out that is not only a cookbook, it is a craft inspirer, a homage to all things vintage, and better for the soul than chicken noodle soup.

The Farm Chicks in the Kitchen

If you find this book and love aprons, antiques, stencils, country living, and of course food, you should jump on it (not literally please, the cover is much too pretty, and in the top left corner it even has a picture of my secret weapon.)  It has family tested recipes, love stories, junking finds, an apron stencil, cupcake clip art, and there is even a one year subscription to Country Living included in the price. This is a must read, and even if you don't cook, the Farm Chick's stories, pictures, and easy to follow recipes might have you tying on an apron and dusting off your mixing bowl.

Book to Share

My copy of Blogging for Bliss just came in and made my day! (Mail is always the best, and packages are even better!) If you haven't read this book, I would highly recommend it.  Not only is it helpful, educational, and fully of inspiration, it is quite simply a joy to look at.

Tara Frey (the author) also has a wonderful blog that I have enjoyed reading while waiting for my book to get here.  Although she no longer posts here, it is still a great deal of fun to read her archives.

I think think this is a must read for all bloggers, especially if you are just getting started (like me) .  There will probably be some minor changes as I start to make my blog look more like my vision!

the hardest part of moving-in

So far the hardest thing about sharing a home with the husbandman has been consolidating our books. Not sharing space with another person, not fighting over covers, not having to agree on which movie to watch, but rather finding space for all our books.
Cause you see, we have a lot of books. And I don't say that lightly, I love books, and my dream growing up was to find the library that The Beast gives to Belle and claim it as my own.

I'm kicking myself for missing the photo op that presented itself yesterday when the husbandman brought home all the books that had been stored in his parents' attic.

The sheer amount of books is really more impressive scattered across the floor in knee-high stacks. And when I say scattered, I mean filling the floor of our sitting area. So I leave you with that image, I'm quite sure your imagination is up to the task (whatever you imagine, the reality was probably more.)

I'll show you what all our books look like on the book cases (we have have five, yes five, (we have two stacked on top of each other because there is just not enough room otherwise) in a bedroom) cause even that is pretty dag-on impressive if I do say so myself.

And these are the books that are headed to the used bookstore, they are either repeats (of which there were many) or ones that probably will not be read again. But knowing us, the pile we bring home from the used bookstore will be just as large as the one we take.
