Early Birthday Present

These were a early birthday present from my in-laws. No my birthday isn't for another week. However the wrapped present has been sitting on the dinning room table calling my name and taunting me for a week now, and they were kind enough to let me open it now. I don't think I could have waited any longer ;)

I can't decide whether to use these to corral sewing notions or to go find a powder puff and use them for what I think was their orginal purpose? What do you think?

I love how when light shines through the lid of the big one, pink magically appears on the underside!

They are made of Italian alabaster and are too pretty to not be seen. The larger one, with painted roses, is roughly six inches in diameter, the smaller one, decorated with a magnolia is about 4.

Thank you so much! It's so mice to know I'm not talking to thin air. And these really are gorgeous, I can't till I have a big enough apartment to have a real vanity table to put them on...

I got a couple of these for my mom when I went to Italy. She doesn't wear make up so she uses it to put small things like safety pins and what not in. I never knew they were for powder, but these ones are gorgeous.

I think that they were originally used to hold powder. I could be wrong though, but that's what I immediately thought.
