News?

      I'm sorry to do this, but I don't think I'll be posting for a few days. Things are rough here, and I just can't find the spirit to share. It's not that I don't have the time, I have plenty or that and more, I just...

     I'm sorry to be so depressing, and I'm be back before the end of the week, I promise. But in the meantime, I'll leave you with my latest, non-sewing project. I'm working on a baby blanket. I'm not sure who it's for yet, my brother and his wife's second baby hopefully, if I get in done on time, but if I don't it'll probably go to someone at church, or I'll just pack it away for future use, I'm not sure, it will come in time.

I found this blanket by Maybe Matilda through my blog browsing, and fell in love with it. Tales from Cuckoo Land had the original blanket idea:

     And she was kind enough to share her bobble tutorial. It is very easy, and I hugely recommend it to any crocheters, or even want-to-be crocheters. It could not be simpler. I am working on a much smaller blanket, it will be more of a snuggle blanket than a warmth blanket. My blanket is only 120 stitches wide, and I hope that eventually it will be square.
  
       I have followed the following pattern:
Double Crochet three rows,
Then on my bobble row, I Double Crochet 5 stitches, then start the bobble, then Double Crochet 5 more stitches, then another bobble and so on,
Then double crotchet three more rows before doing a another bobble row.

      It's coming together quickly, but I'm only really working on it while watching movies or on long-ish car rides.

Slouchy Hat

      I woke up to snow this morning! That is the best thing possible, in my humble opinion.  It's like the whole world gets a chance to be pure and beautiful, even if just for a morning. But once I got out of bed I realized how cold it was (the luxury of down is that there could be a blizzard in the room, and I'd never notice) and that got me started on...

    ...My latest project; the Mademoiselle Slouchy Beanie by Inner Hooker.  I was exploring Michael's and found this amazingly soft yarn by Caron.  It is a part of their Spa brand and is a luxurious bamboo blend that has a sheen that is just perfect, almost like a pearl (if that makes any sense.)

  

      I think it turned out rather well, don't you? The only thing I changed was to add several extra rows (the directions say exactly where to add these in the pattern) to make it larger, since I was using a thinner yarn than what was called for.

It would also be very cute worn as a beret, or even a snood.  Now the biggest question is what to do with the extra skein and a half of yarn. I think a scarf is definitely necessary, maybe a really long one with pockets on the end.  What do you think?

Mouse Hat

      This was my attempt at Inner Hooker's mouse beanie for Miss G. (If you crochet and don't know Inner Hooker, you need to look her up: Inner Hooker)  It looked adorable and very easy to do. Mouse Beanie.

     It crocheted up very quickly, the directions were very clear, and I had it all but one ear done by the time we got back from visiting my grandparents.

    
      The only problem: I forgot to check my gauge. And the hat is just a wee bit bigger than it needs to be... And Miss G looks thrilled to get a hat she wont be able to wear for years. But we all got a laugh out of it, I guess that made it worth it.  And hey, in a year or so, she'll have a really cute beanie!

     Moral of the story: if a hat made for a 9 month year old looks like you could wear it, it might be a little big...
